Eyeliner is a cosmetic makeup, which is used along the rim of the eyes to add more definition. Effect of eyeliner application is such that even the smallest eyes will appear larger. However, eyeliner entails a correct and impeccable application.
Eyeliner is mainly of four types liquid eyeliner, powder based eye pencil, wax-based pencils and kohl eyeliner.
Liquid eyeliner
Liquid eyeliner is considered to be the most popular one because of its preciseness. Its application around the eye contours can create a variety of aesthetic illusions. But it entails a very steady application.
When it comes to applying the liquid eyeliner, the first and foremost requirement is to prepare the liner and see to it that there is a sufficient liquid in the brush. Start with the top lid. Initially start applying the liner at the inside corner with light and gentle touch and then work outwards. It will be good not to apply it all in one long line. Instead, draw several smaller lines for better results.
Liquid eyeliner cannot be applied so easily, but it certainly creates dramatic and sultry effects through precise and defined line. Liquid eyeliner that is typically contained in a small bottle can be sold along with a precision applicator brush.
Powder-based pencil
Powder-based pencils that are harder in nature are preferred when it comes to creating defined line. First of all wet your brush before using it if you are desirous for having a dramatic look. Your lashes will look fuller than their normal size, with coloring of the spaces between each lash. Hard powder-based eye pencil is also popular for its preciseness and it can be applied easily.
Wax-based pencil
Softer wax-based pencils are easily applicable. Wax-based eye pencils are soft pencils that can be found in a wide variety of intense colors and pale shades like white or beige. The wax in the pencil makes the application easier. Wax-based pencils are generally used for smudging to get a smoky effect.
Wax-based eyeliners are available in a cone with a very fine point that makes the application more easy and precise. Such eyeliners are also available in compact along with brush applicator.
Kohl pencil
Kohl eyeliner is made of the softest powder texture. Eye defining pencil is meant for adding definition and a trace of color to the bottom of eye. It comes in a variety of colors. Because of having fine point and medium to soft lead Kohl pencil glides on easily under the lower eyelashes.
Eyeliner Application
Select eyeliner, which can be appropriate for your eye color. Browns, glided bronzes, and plums can be appropriate for the lighter eyes. All these colors can give a more drastic black backdrop to the dark eyes.
Silvers and charcoals can be great for green and blue eyes. Rich red browns too can be perfect for blue eyes while golds are best for green eyes.
Your eyes will look redder with red tints and whiter with blues. Make sure that the liner you are using suits to the color of your shadow.
How to apply eyeliner?
Apply eye shadow prior to eyeliner application.
Now hold the lining device and turn your hand in such a way as to bring the applicator tip parallel to your eyelid.
If you were going through the initial stages of makeup application, you would better not use liquid eyeliner in the beginning because it can upset you. You can try it later on after learning a little about the application method. Instead, begin with an eyeliner pencil.
Pick an eyeliner pencil and run it above the upper eyelid lashes, which are just close to the lash line. In the beginning it will be good idea to draw line directly above where the lashes are growing. Avoid extending your line too close to the inner corner of the eye, as it may not make you look proper. You would better start extending the liner line only after you feel comfortable with eye makeup.
After finishing the task of lining, gently start smudging the line that you have just drawn. Pencils mostly comprise foam rubber smudger on one end. By smudging you can lessen the harshness of the line to some extent.
After lining and smudging, run a small pointy brush over the eyeliner to apply a coat of the dark eye shadow. Do this when you notice that the line is looking like standing out too much. The line becomes soft with the application of the dark eye shadow coat. This step becomes necessary particularly for liquid liner.
Most of the make-up wearing women use some sort of eyeliner. They mostly prefer liner to mascara for their eyes. Moreover they are much more prone to liner than shadow. These are the best way for applying eyeliner.
Warnings
Do not share your eyeliner with others as it may cause transmission of bacteria and infection from one person to another.
If you have to share, you must rinse the liquid off by swiping the tip with a bit of makeup remover or rubbing alcohol.
Lining inside of the lower lid might result in eye infections besides increasing the risk of getting makeup in your eyes.
Avoid sharpening eyeliner pencil too much as it may lead to crumbling of the pencil tip which in turn may get into your eyes at the time of application.
